W.E. Sawyer is a supporting antagonist in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, having first been mentioned to have been charged for the crimes perpetrated by the Sawyer Family in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Biography

W.E. Sawyer was arrested in 1973, charged with the murders of various characters of the original film. When Sally Hardesty Enright escaped the Sawyer family, she informed the police of the events that had transpired. After an investigation, W.E. was the only member of the Sawyer family captured, as Leatherface, Drayton Sawyer, and Grandpa Sawyer had fled the scene. With the public believing that W.E. was responsible for the massacre and that "Leatherface" was a split personality of his, W.E. was given the death penalty and sentenced to the gas chambers in 1981.[1]

W.E. later resurfaced, alongside Leatherface, Darla, Grandpa Sawyer, and Vilmer Sawyer.[2]

Trivia

  • Due to the flawed continuity of the series, the appearance of W.E, Grandpa Sawyer, and Sally Hardesty Enright in The Next Generation seem to contradict Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3.
  • The sign of the Sawyer gas station in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre reads "W.E. Slaughter's Barbecue", serving as a possible inspiration for the character.
  • W.E. seems to have an affinity for quoting famed historical figures.
